ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The 10th-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey squad (13-8-1, 7-5-0 Big Ten) will compete against the top-ranked Michigan State (18-2-2, 9-1-2 Big Ten) for the first encounter this season in a home-and-home format. The teams will clash at Yost Ice Arena on Friday (Jan. 17) at 7 p.m., followed by a 7:30 p.m. matchup on Saturday (Jan. 18) at Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing. Friday’s game will be streamed live on B1G+, while Saturday’s game will air live on Big Ten Network.

• Jacob Truscott has been acknowledged as a nominee for the 2025 Hockey Humanitarian Award. The captain for two years leads the defensemen in scoring with three goals and nine assists (12 points) and is merely five points away from equaling his season high of 17. Truscott is also at the forefront of the team in blocked shots with 31.

• Michael Hage is continuing to lead the freshmen in the nation for scoring. Over 19 games played, the Montreal Canadiens draft selection has tallied 11 goals and 13 assists for a total of 24 points. He has netted four game-winning goals and has already recorded a five-point game.

• Another individual leading in national statistics is sophomore Garrett Schifsky, who is first in the country for short-handed goals with three. John Madden holds the NCAA record for short-handed goals in a season with 10 (1995-96) and accumulated an NCAA record of 23 during his four-year career in Ann Arbor.

• Michigan has excelled 3-on-3, boasting a record of 4-0-1 in overtime bouts this season. Jackson Hallum has netted two of the Wolverines’ game-winners in OT. When the game is close, Michigan has managed to secure victories in six of seven matches decided by a single goal.

• Michigan holds a 177-142-24 advantage in the all-time series against Michigan State, which commenced in 1925. Last season, MSU triumphed in four of six encounters, including the Big Ten Championship with a 5-4 overtime victory. A week later, the Wolverines concluded the Spartans’ season with a 5-2 victory in the NCAA Regional final in St. Louis, propelling Michigan to its third consecutive Frozen Four appearance.

• U-M and MSU are set to clash again in three weeks. The Duel in the D at Little Caesars Arena will take place on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 8 p.m., with Michigan acting as the home team. Tickets remain available. The evening prior, Friday (Feb. 9), the teams will meet at Munn Arena at 7 p.m.
