Biloxi Casino Dream Deferred: State Gaming Commission Hits Pause on Project

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) – On Thursday, the Mississippi Gaming Commission postponed approval for the Tivoli Hotel and Casino initiative in Biloxi, indicating further time is required for an analysis.

The Tivoli represents a $700 million venture covering 32 acres at the former Tivoli Hotel location, situated north of Highway 90 just west of the Biloxi Yacht Club.

The blueprint includes a 1,300-room hotel along with 100,000 square feet of gambling area featuring slot machines and table games.

Biloxi Mayor FoFo Gilich, alongside other council members and residents, were present at the meeting to advocate for the project.

“We think a project like this will be transformative for us,” remarked Ward 2 Councilman Felix Gines.

The dissenting view came from Katie Hester, who is part of the Mississippi Hospitality and Gaming Association.

Hester referred to a loophole concerning the casino’s proximity to the Waterfront.

“We requested last month that you adhere to the interpretation,” Hester stated.

The executive director along with members of the Mississippi Gaming Commission expressed the need for additional time to evaluate the multifaceted proposal.

“When you assess the outcome, I believe it’s merely a postponement, and it will delay the project even further,” Gilich commented.
