Capture the Moment: VA-M Festival 2025 Photography Competition Awaits!

Chosen artworks will be showcased on 5 public billboards curated by PhMuseum as a component of the Vivere A-Metropolitano festival, organized by HPO, in Ferrara and several municipalities in the Po Delta Park, Italy.

Summary

PhMuseum and HPO welcome visual creators to present their interpretations of Vivere A-Metropolitano, literally translated to A-Metropolitan Living, intended as a method to investigate the architecture, landscapes, and concepts of provincial regions, bestowing a new significance upon those areas preserved by low density that neither correspond to nor aspire to the scale of the metropolis.

The phrase “a-metropolitan” does not merely signify a deficiency or scarcity, but rather introduces an aspiration for liberation and autonomy. While acknowledging urban spaces as the principal resource and solution for modern living, Vivere A-Metropolitano provides a platform for actions and narratives.

Essential Information

Participants may submit projects and series of images (up to 20 photos) that reflect on this subject, without any geographical restrictions. All visual methodologies are encouraged.

The chosen works will be displayed on 5 public billboards (6×3 meters) curated by PhMuseum as part of the Vivere A-Metropolitano festival, organized by HPO, which is set to occur in Italy from 31 March to 23 April 2025, spanning Ferrara and various municipalities of the Po Delta Park.

The selection panel consists of Giuseppe Oliverio (PhMuseum Founding and Creative Director) and Camilla Marrese (PhMuseum Visual Editor).

About HPO

HPO is a collective of eleven architects situated in Ferrara, Italy. Established in 2017 to break away from academic routines and tackle the job market, HPO has since been engaged in architecture, temporary installations, exhibitions, and performances, consistently embodying a collaborative spirit, receptive to influences. HPO HQ serves as the group’s central base in Ferrara, functioning as a cultural association that curates and produces public events, discussions, and workshops. HPO acts as the chief curator for the Festival of Architecture V A-M: Vivere A-Metropolitano, exploring concepts of a-metropolitan living.

The collective has showcased its projects at some of Europe’s premier design hubs and universities: Akademie der Künste, Berlin; HEAD, Genève; TU Graz, ENSAP Versailles; Dropcity, Milan; Biennale del Territorio, Lugano, and the Italian Pavilion at the 18th Venice Biennale. HPO’s works were highlighted at the Premio Architettura Italiano 2024 organized by MAXXI and Triennale di Milano.
