During his latest stream, the Tesla founder’s gameplay was examined by the gaming community, giving rise to doubts that he may have compensated others to enhance his account for a more skilled appearance. This suspicion arose as viewers observed Musk’s ignorance of fundamental game mechanics that an experienced player would typically be aware of. His account, ranking among the top in the game’s “hardcore” mode, appeared to be inconsistent with his actual gameplay.

Renowned Twitch streamer Asmongold openly challenged Musk’s gameplay, questioning his abilities and suggesting that Musk demonstrate his skills by playing through the campaign with a facecam. Asmongold extended an invitation for Musk to prove himself, yet Musk’s reply lacked any sign of a competitive spirit.

Musk discloses DMs and criticizes Asmongold

In retaliation, the SpaceX CEO revealed private direct messages exchanged with Asmongold, where the latter elaborated on the role of his editors in producing content. Musk implied that Asmongold’s views weren’t genuinely independent as he required his boss’s approval to voice them. This action resulted in further outrage and confusion. “Asmon behaves like a maverick ‘independent.’” He expressed in a tweet. “But in truth, he must request his boss for permission before he can proceed. He is not his own man.”

The tech mogul also unfollowed Asmongold on X (formerly Twitter), and shortly thereafter, Asmongold lost his blue verification checkmark. While the reason remains uncertain, some fans speculated it was a direct consequence of Musk’s displeasure with the criticism.

On the contrary, Musk’s own followers on X.com provided further context to his statements, characterizing them as ‘insightful.’ They explained that Asmongold streams on Twitch, then has his editors modify and adapt the content for YouTube, something Asmongold openly admits.

In a subsequent tweet, Musk dismissed Asmongold’s gaming skills, asserting he excelled at “caustic commentary” rather than actual gaming. Musk has frequently shared his gaming experiences on social media, claiming to be among the top players in several online role-playing games.
