A shop that provides cooking courses, knife collections, and steamers is shutting down in the Knox-Henderson district.
Sur La Table, a nationwide retailer originating from Seattle, is closing the store that has been operating since 2016. A representative stated via email that the company will continue to operate its other Dallas location at Preston Royal, along with those in Southlake and Fort Worth.
This decision aligns with trends seen among other retailers tightening their real estate footprints, such as Macy’s and Kohl’s, due to persistent difficulties for conventional stores competing against online retail and shifting consumer preferences. The closure of Sur La Table is also happening against a backdrop of heightened interest in Knox-Henderson, an area that has witnessed new developments and store openings.
Currently, Sur La Table has no plans for new openings in the locality, according to the spokesperson. The details on the website mention that the location at 4525 Cole Ave., Ste. 190, will close permanently on January 25.
Previously, the retailer closed a site in Plano amid the challenges posed by COVID-19. The company declared bankruptcy in 2020 and shut down locations nationwide.
“Our team continually assesses how to effectively engage our customers while offering a comprehensive range of services in appealing centers — encompassing retail, cooking classes, and events,” said the spokesperson in the statement.
