(AP) — The gaming powerhouse Nintendo unveiled its latest console on Thursday in a much-anticipated revelation that enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting since the initial rumors of its launch surfaced years back.
The Nintendo Switch 2, the new generation of the Nintendo Switch system, is set to debut in 2025, according to the company.
In a fresh promotional video, Nintendo highlights a bigger version of the Switch that resembles its predecessor. The footage also demonstrates the system’s controllers, also known as Joy-Cons, which now attach to the side of the main unit instead of sliding in.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will support exclusive games for the console, along with both physical and digital Nintendo Switch titles. Some Nintendo Switch games may not be supported or might not function perfectly on the Nintendo Switch 2, according to the company.
The announcement lacked extensive information regarding the console or a precise release date. The company asserts that additional details about the system will be revealed during the April Nintendo Direct event. The Kyoto-based game developer also stated that it will conduct “Nintendo Switch 2 Experience” events in multiple countries, where gamers can try out the new system firsthand.
These events are scheduled for cities including Los Angeles, New York, London, and Paris starting in April. Ticket registration for these events will commence on Friday, according to Nintendo.
