Certification encompasses evaluation of visual comfort and alignment with circadian rhythms

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. disclosed today that its Neo QLED and Lifestyle televisions have obtained the EyeCare Circadian certification from Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE), a prominent certification body for electrical engineering in Germany. This milestone emphasizes Samsung’s dedication to innovation that nurtures natural circadian cycles, enhancing both well-being and visual comfort.

“This certification reinforces our commitment to crafting products that enhance user experiences by focusing on eye comfort and diminishing visual fatigue, all while maintaining outstanding picture quality,” stated Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We will persist in advancing innovations that respond to users’ changing requirements, providing both engaging entertainment and sustainable long-term comfort.”

The certification includes prominent models within the Neo QLED and Lifestyle collections, featuring The Frame and The Serif. Six essential criteria are reviewed to confirm a product’s eligibility for certification: Safety for Eyes, Comfort for the Eyes, Flicker Level, Uniformity, Color Fidelity, and the Circadian Stimulus (CS) index — a standard used to evaluate visual comfort and alignment with circadian rhythms.

Central to Samsung’s achievement is EyeComfort Mode, which intuitively modifies brightness and color temperature according to the time of day and surrounding lighting conditions. By mimicking natural light cycles, this mode alleviates strain during daytime viewing, creating a calming nighttime setting that aligns with the body’s inherent rhythms.

This certification adds to the array of accolades for Samsung TVs, showcasing their user-centered products and features. The Neo QLED series previously received VDE’s Circadian Rhythm Display certification, while Samsung’s Lifestyle TVs were recognized with Glare-Free certification from Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for minimizing visual strain. Moreover, due to their remarkable color precision, Samsung TVs hold Pantone Validation.
