LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following a long hiatus, the men’s and women’s swim squads at Bellarmine University are set to return to the pool and commence 2025 with their final home competition of the year this weekend. The Knights will welcome Xavier and Northern Kentucky to the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center this Saturday, January 18th as they honor Senior Day.

The contest against the Musketeers and Norse is scheduled to start at 1 pm E.T.

BU last competed on November 23, also at home, against Ball State where the Knights achieved a split result, winning on the men’s side but losing on the women’s. The men’s victory marked the first against Ball State in the history of the program, while the women’s team earned 13 more points compared to the previous season.

For the men’s team, seniors John Paul Metzner and Brandon Thomas stood out with two victories each. Metzner secured first place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.10 and the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.27, while Thomas won the 200 IM (1:56.35) and tied for first alongside grad student Andrew Nguyen in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.62.

Sophomores Evan Dickson and Colin Jackson also clinched top finishes in the dual, with Dickson winning the 200 freestyle (1:42.91) and Jackson taking first in the 100 backstroke (51.35).

Several other Bellarmine male swimmers earned podium positions, with junior Sam Jones finishing second in the 1000 freestyle, junior Cason Henderson placing second in the 200 IM, junior Caleb Howard coming in second in the 100 freestyle, Dickson finishing second in the 500 freestyle, and sophomore Britton Pianki taking third in the 100 freestyle.

On the women’s front, freshman Micaela Godfrey continued to stand out with another pair of victories, securing first place in the 200 IM (2:08.35) and the 100 backstroke (57.16).

Other freshmen Lily Epley and senior Alexandra Pierce also brought home gold against Ball State, with Epley winning the 50 freestyle (24.58) and Pierce triumphing in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.49). Both Epley and Pierce earned silver medals as well, finishing second in the 100 freestyle and Pierce finishing second in the 200 IM.

Additionally, freshman Lily Wolfe secured silver in the 500 freestyle, while Ava Jones took bronze in the 100 free.

The swim teams of Bellarmine will take a significant break as they gear up for their spring agenda, starting with a dual meet against Xavier at Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center on Saturday, January 18.
