WASHINGTON – In the second of three consecutive weekends of competition, the George Washington University men’s and women’s swimming & diving squads are preparing for their next dual meet of the 2024-25 season, visiting Georgetown this Saturday. The event is set to commence at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at McCarthy Pool, with a live broadcast available on guhoyas.com.
TOPOLEWSKI, SENS, STRATTON RECEIVE A-10 WEEKLY HONORS
GW swimming & diving secured three out of four weekly honors from the A-10 this past week following remarkable performances by veteran Ava Topolewski, along with first-years Natalie Sens and Shae Stratton during GW’s tri-meet against Pitt and West Virginia. Each of them has now received several weekly accolades this season, as Topolewski earned her third A-10 Performer of the Week award, while Sens and Stratton each attained their second A-10 Rookie of the Week recognitions.
HISTORY AGAINST THE HOYAS
The Revolutionaries aim for their eighth consecutive victory against Georgetown this weekend, a streak that traces back to the 2016-17 season. In the previous season, the Revolutionaries hosted Georgetown for Senior Day at the Smith Center, where GW established a significant early advantage and thoroughly outperformed the Hoyas, winning 215-85 (women’s) and 188-112 (men’s).
ABOUT GEORGETOWN
Georgetown will be competing for the first time in the new year, as their last event was in late November at the Bruno Invite, organized by Brown. The Hoyas performed well at the Bruno Invite, with the women’s team finishing in second place and the men’s team in fourth. The men’s squad is currently at 5-0 in dual meets, having triumphed over American, Howard, Villanova, NJIT, and Johns Hopkins, while the women’s side holds a 3-2 record with victories against Howard, American, and Johns Hopkins, alongside losses to Villanova and UConn.
The Hoyas are coming off a successful 2023-24 season, in which their men’s team claimed the Big East Championship for the third consecutive year, while their women’s team secured a third-place finish. Jack Januario and Nick Santiago have both returned for the Hoyas in 2024-25 after being recognized as the Big East Men’s Co-Most Outstanding Swimmer and Big East Men’s Co-Most Outstanding Diver, respectively.
