All About Photo (AAP) regularly features outstanding contemporary photography through its monthly release. Artists contribute their best works based on a selected topic, enabling enthusiastic creatives to convey their perspectives to a worldwide audience. AAP has recently revealed the laureates of its 45th edition, centered on the theme – Travels.
Twenty-five remarkable photographers have been selected as winners for their extraordinary photographs, which AAP notes have “captured the essence of adventure and the splendor of our planet.” The winners were chosen from thousands of submissions made by photographers from 13 nations across four continents, highlighting the vast variety of travel photography. The collection of award-winning images is truly impressive!
Regarding the winning photographs, AAP remarks, “For this edition, AAP Magazine sought images that transport viewers to remarkable locations, whether known or seldom viewed. The winning photographs span tranquil European landscapes to lively urban scenes, heartwarming portraits, and dramatic wildlife encounters. These breathtaking works provide a glimpse into the infinite marvels of our world and the distinct narratives that unfold within it”.
The leading three winners of the competition are as follows: Gold was awarded to Peter Ydeen from the United States for his series Waiting for Palms. Thaddäus Biberauer from Austria achieved silver with his series Around the Globe, while bronze was attributed to Liam Man from the United Kingdom for his series Icebreaker. Each of these laureates will earn a prize of $1,000. Furthermore, all 25 winners will be highlighted in the winners’ gallery and in the printed version of AAP Magazine 45 Travels.
Peter Ydeen’s first-place image is entitled A Woman a Baby and a Tree from his series Waiting for Palms. Taken in Rissani, Morocco, this photograph explores urban photography in Africa. Ydeen states, “Urban Landscape photography typically brings to mind photographers like Eggleston and Tice and conjures images of North American suburbs and small towns. Nevertheless, the celebration of the beauty in the ordinary can be found everywhere”.
The second-place photograph by Thaddäus Biberauer is named New York, from his series Around the Globe. This photograph portrays the New York City skyline mirrored in what looks like glass windows, generating a beautifully artistic effect. This impression is further enriched by the two figures gazing up at the Manhattan Bridge, evoking a sense of timeless artistry.
Liam Man, the third-place winner, merges ancient monuments with contemporary technology in his image titled Moonrise Sprites Over Storr. The photograph features the moon rising over the prominent Old Man of Storr in Scotland, lighting up the frosty surroundings. Above the feature, lights attached to drones create a surreal atmosphere, highlighting the icy crystals reaching towards them.
Discussing the creation of the image, Man remarks, “Blizzards howled throughout much of the night, giving only a few minutes to capture the photograph before the moon became overly bright. As the storm cleared, the icy crystals suspended in the atmosphere refracted the moonlight, transforming it into a fiery orange.”
