Victorious Waves: Men’s Swimming and Diving Surges Past Brown Away from Home

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Harvard Men’s Swimming and Diving extended their winning streak to five successive dual meets on Friday by overcoming Brown on their turf, 182-118. The Crimson stands at 5-0 for the season and 4-0 against Ivy League opponents. The Bears, on the other hand, fell to 3-4 (2-4 Ivy).

How It Unfolded

• Shane Washart was the initial Crimson swimmer to achieve a win, conquering the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 9:24.74.
• Joshua Chen claimed the 100 breaststroke by nearly two seconds, concluding the event in 54.73. The second place finisher, Harrison Powe from Brown, clocked in at 56.09.
• Chen’s triumph sparked a series of five consecutive swimming event victories, with Adriano Arioti securing the 200 butterfly in 1:47.69. The first-year swimmer led a contingent that excelled in the event, as David Schmitt (1:47.78), Mert Iravul (1:50.00), and Richard Poplawski III (1:51.48) finished second, third, and fourth, respectively.
• Sonny Wang followed Arioti’s achievement with two consecutive victories, taking the 50 freestyle in 19.78 and the 100 freestyle in 44.59.
• Between Wang’s two victories, Adam Wesson topped the standings with a 1-meter diving score of 390.30. This performance signaled further excellence as the senior concluded his time in Providence by winning on the 3-meter board with a score of 379.80.
• Following Wang’s success in the 100 freestyle, Arioti and Chen finished the run with victorious performances in the 200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke, respectively. Arioti completed his race in 1:45.87, narrowly ahead of second-place Anthony Rincon (1:46.70) and third-place Eric Lee (1:50.60). Meanwhile, Chen capped off the breaststroke sweep with a time of 2:00.05.
• The Crimson subsequently concluded the midday competition with victories from Schmitt, Lee, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Rincon, Marre Gattnar, David Greeley, and Wang. Schmitt began with a performance of 48.28 in the 100 butterfly and was succeeded by Lee’s 3:58.91 in the 400 individual medley. The relay finalized the dual with a dominating effort, finishing in 2:59.61, almost two seconds faster than the runner-up group consisting of Harris Durham, Ben Littlejohn, Evan Croley, and Oliver Pilkinton (3:01.02).
