ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan women’s track and field squad will stay at home to host the Simmons-Harvey Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 18) at the U-M Indoor Track Facility. The field events will kick off at 10 a.m., followed by track events starting at 11:30 a.m.

Notes

• Rivals from the Big Ten, Michigan State and Purdue, will come to Ann Arbor for U-M’s sole scored meet of the indoor season.

Elizabeth Tapper commenced 2025 with a remarkable performance, establishing the program shot put record (16.86m, 55 feet, 3.75 inches) at the Wolverine Invitational. This achievement places her at No. 9 in the NCAA and No. 5 in the Big Ten.

• Thrower Abigail Russell made an outstanding entrance for the Maize and Blue, placing third in the shot put with a distance of 14.35m (47-1) and second in the weight throw at 18.63m (61-1.5), earning Big Ten Freshman of the Week accolades on Wednesday (Jan. 15). Russell’s weight throw measurement ranks No. 7 on the program performers list, and her shot put result is No. 24 in the league while her weight throw is No. 18.

• Freshman Kourtney Rathke also made her Michigan debut at the Wolverine Invitational, clinching victory in the pole vault (3.85m, 12-7.50) to secure a tie for the No. 10 mark on the program performers list and holds the No. 14 position in the Big Ten.

Aasia Laurencin clocked a personal-best of 7.53 seconds in the 60-meter dash preliminaries and finished fourth with a time of 7.59 seconds in the finals.

• Freshmen Bella Harsanyi (1:36.37) and Emma Thomas (1:36.44) secured third and fourth places, respectively, in the 600-meter run last weekend, while Coraline Haggarty came in second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.43.

Savannah Sutherland (200-meter dash) and Riley Ammenhauser (triple jump) are anticipated to make their seasonal debuts at the Simmons-Harvey Invite.
