The Webb School is delighted to declare the awardees of the Johnson-Fort Endowed Travel Scholarship for the academic session of 2024-2025. This eminent scholarship, generously founded by Jeff Whorley, a member of the Class of 1979 and an active Board of Trustees member, commemorates the legacy of two of his esteemed Webb educators and seeks to offer students transformative educational travel experiences.

The recipients for this year include:

  • Elizabeth Jackson, a 9th-grade student from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, who will be visiting France. Elizabeth’s journey will deeply engage her with the rich history, culture, and language of France, enhancing her academic pursuits and global outlook.
  • Amelie Taucare, an 11th-grade student from Bell Buckle, Tennessee, who will be heading to Costa Rica. Amelie’s expedition will emphasize giving back to the community and fostering cultural exchanges, reflecting her dedication to the Spanish language and global citizenship.

Each awardee received financial support to facilitate their travel pursuits. The selection process for the scholarship was carried out through a blind evaluation of submissions, ensuring that decisions were based exclusively on the merit and potential impact of the applicants’ proposed experiences.

“We are excited to present this opportunity to Elizabeth and Amelie,” expressed Jonathon Hawkins, Director of Alumni and Development. “Their forthcoming adventures embody the essence of the Johnson-Fort Endowed Travel Scholarship, designed to encourage students to broaden their horizons and connect profoundly with the surrounding world.”

“The Webb School expresses its heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Whorley for his vision and kindness in establishing this scholarship, which continues to make a significant impact in the lives of Webb students.”
