Lehigh Celebrates Faculty & Staff with a Special Day Honoring Loyola Maryland!

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s basketball team is set to return to Stabler Arena for a Saturday afternoon clash against the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds on Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day, sponsored by RichMar Florist. The game is set to begin at 2 p.m.

Lehigh (6-10, 1-4 PL) holds a narrow edge in the all-time series over Loyola Maryland (7-9, 2-3 PL) with a lead of 17-16. The Greyhounds triumphed over the Mountain Hawks 80-74 in their initial encounter this season in Baltimore on January 5. Last year, Lehigh secured the season sweep, but the two teams have evenly split the last ten contests at 5-5.

A victory for Lehigh would mark their seventh triumph of the current season, improving their Patriot League record to 2-4. Head coach Brett Reed’s overall record against the Greyhounds would ascend to 13-12.

Senior guard Tyler Whitney-Sidney recorded a game-high 20 points during his return to Massachusetts, and the Mountain Hawks converted 60% of their shots from the field in the second half. Nevertheless, it was insufficient to surpass the Boston University Terriers, who defeated Lehigh 63-58 on Wednesday evening. Lehigh’s offense struggled to find its rhythm in the opening period, connecting on just 30.8% (8-26) from the field and a mere 7.1% (1-14) from three-point range in the first half. Conversely, BU started strong, amassing an 18-point lead with a shooting percentage of 61.1% in the first 13 minutes. However, the Mountain Hawks found offensive success in the second half, significantly increasing their shooting percentage on their path to a comeback. Ultimately, a late 7-0 run by the Terriers solidified their lead.

The Greyhounds currently occupy seventh place in the Patriot League with a 2-3 record, having recently faced a 73-54 defeat to American on Wednesday. Head coach Josh Loeffler is in his inaugural season leading the program and has already matched the previous season’s win total of seven. Senior Milos Ilic is the top scorer and rebounder for the team, averaging 13.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Sophomore Jordan Stiemke contributes an average of 12.9 points per game off the bench, while sophomore Jacob Theodosiou also averages double figures at 12.1 points per game.

After Saturday’s matchup, the Mountain Hawks are set to travel to Washington, D.C. to take on the American Eagles on Wednesday, January 22 at 7 p.m. at Bender Arena.
