POLK COUNTY, Minn. — Officials in northwestern Minnesota are urging residents to avoid traveling on the roads Friday afternoon.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office indicated that visibility is virtually nonexistent in various areas, and drifting snow is creating perilous roadway conditions.
“If you don’t have to travel, please remain indoors,” the sheriff’s office commented. “If travel is necessary, ensure you possess a winter weather survival kit in your vehicle. If you find yourself stranded, emergency services might be unable to assist until conditions improve.”
The sheriff’s office noted it has received notifications of vehicles being stuck in ditches.
The county is under a winter weather advisory until 9 p.m. due to accumulating snow and wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
