Adventure Company Ltd), are excited to announce the winners of the first 2024 motorsport photography competition. This year’s awards honor outstanding talent within amateur motorsport photographers, celebrating the enthusiasm, creativity, and expertise of individuals who capture the world of UK
motorsport from distinct viewpoints at race circuits and motorsport events throughout the United Kingdom.

The submissions to the contest were remarkable, covering a wide array of motorsport events and photographic styles. Following an extensive evaluation by a distinguished panel of judges at the globally recognized Silverstone Circuit, we are delighted to reveal the winners across three categories, along with a runner-up, a highly
commended recipient, and the overall winner, who will earn the title of Amateur Motorsport Photographer of the Year 2024.

Amateur Motorsport Photography Category Victors

  • On Track Action: Richard Newby – “For an electrifying image that captured the sheer velocity of rallying.”
  • Pit Lane and Paddock: Chris Nicholson – “For a stunning early morning shot portraying a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes life in motorsport.”
  • Portraits: Joy Richings – “For a breathtakingly artistic monochrome representation of motorsport, encapsulating the anticipation of a sidecar team just before heading out on track.”

Highly Commended: Sam Pelling: “For a photograph of a Mercedes AMG GT3 that stood out due to its technical prowess, earning special acknowledgment from the judges.”

A Platform for Emerging Talent

The Amateur Motorsport Photography Awards is devoted to fostering amateur talent among motorsport photographers, providing winners with exclusive opportunities to exhibit their work. All winners will receive an array of fantastic prizes to commemorate their achievements in this year’s competition. The overall winner will bear the prestigious title of Amateur Motorsport Photographer of the Year 2024. Alongside this title, they will also be awarded a multitude of prizes, both related to photography and motorsport.

They will obtain a £250.00 workshop voucher for Trackside Focus, allowing for further development. A range of photographic equipment will be presented to assist them in their journey, including a Vanguard VEO 2S CM-264 Monopod, a Peak Design Slide Strap, and a Peak Design 35L Travel Duffel. Furthermore, they will receive a framed A3 print of their winning photograph, along with a £100.00 voucher applicable at Bob Books. Additionally, the winner will earn a variety of motorsport-related prizes, including an extraordinary Silverstone driving experience, 2 x BTCC tickets for the 2025 season at Silverstone Circuit, 4 x Castle Combe event tickets for an event of the winner’s choice, plus a yearly subscription to The Pit Stop Magazine.

The runner-up will enjoy a £150.00 Trackside Focus workshop voucher, a Vanguard Technical pack, a Peak Design Slide Lite Strap, an A4 print of their winning photograph, a £50 Bob Books voucher, an annual subscription to The Pit Stop Magazine, as well as 2 x BTCC tickets for the 2025 season.

The highly commended will receive a £100.00 Trackside Focus workshop voucher, a Vanguard Technical pack, an A4 print of their winning photograph, a £25 Bob Books voucher, an annual subscription to The Pit Stop Magazine, and 2 x BTCC tickets for the 2025 season. All winners will also be given a complimentary copy of the AMPA 2024 photo book.

Richard Towler, Professional Motorsport Photographer, remarked, “The winning photograph depicted the behind-the-scenes at Goodwood Revival in so many aspects. The individuals, the vehicles, and the effective use of reflections all contribute to it being an exceptional image, and I was delighted to see it clinch the overall win.”

Rob Hansford, Co-Founder and Editor of The Pit Stop Magazine, stated, “The caliber of quality in the first AMPA competition was simply extraordinary. It was remarkable to observe so many well-composed and executed images from a wide range of amateur photographers, many of whom could easily compete with professional photographers. Congratulations to the winners; their images all vividly narrated a story, which I sought throughout the judging process, and their accolades are well-earned!”
