Diving into Success: Women’s Swimming Team Claims Runners-Up Spot at Henry Kumpf Invitational

TROY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women’s swimming & diving squad secured second place on Saturday while competing at RPI against the Engineers, SUNY Cortland, Skidmore College, and William Smith during the Henry Kumpf Invitational. The Bombers accumulated 532 points, finishing behind RPI who achieved 562.5. Ithaca recorded impressive overall individual results along with two program records in the mixed relay events, marking their first participation in those this season.
 
The teams engaged in mixed relays, where the Ithaca 200-yard medley “A” relay team consisting of Samantha Bender, Sydney Koehler, Matthew Mitros, and Spencer Alderson placed second with a time of 1:43.64. This performance established a new program record for Ithaca in the event. A program record was likewise reset in the 200-yard mixed freestyle relay featuring Matthew Mitros, Spencer Carroll, Elke Beaumont, and Spencer Alderson, who finished in 1:33.52, also earning a second-place result.
 
The Bombers dominated the diving competitions, with Kailee Payne clinching victories in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Payne finished first in the 1-meter with a finals score of 279.75, surpassing her teammate Angela Burke who scored 262.65. Payne also outperformed Burke on the 3-meter boards, earning scores of 287.55 and 274.35, respectively.
 
In individual events, first-year swimmer Sydney Koehler triumphed in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:28.07, which was over 3 seconds quicker than RPI’s nearest competitor Audrey Lewis. The Bombers also achieved second-place finishes in the 200-yard butterfly (Kathleen Papiernik), 100-yard freestyle (Elke Beaumont), and Samantha Bender in the 200-yard backstroke.
