SOWEGA-AHEC provides travel assistance to health profession students who undergo clinical training in one of the 38 counties serviced.

POLICIES FOR SOWEGA-AHEC TRAVEL STIPEND:

• Students must be enrolled in an endorsed health professional program and complete a community-based educational rotation within a designated AHEC region in Georgia.
• Students cannot receive both lodging and travel assistance concurrently.
• Students who travel a minimum of 25 miles beyond their campus county are qualified for travel assistance. Additionally, students traveling at least 25 miles from their current residence to their clinical rotation location are also eligible for travel stipends.
• Students need to request reimbursement from the regional AHEC within 30 days following the completion of their rotation.
• Academic institutions are not permitted to request or submit travel stipend applications on behalf of students.
• Eligible rotations must last at least 8 consecutive days. For rotations lasting 8 to 19 days, a $50 travel stipend is available, while rotations of 20 days or more qualify for a $100 travel stipend.
• Travel stipends are granted to students on a first-come, first-served basis; however, availability is not assured for any academic year. AHEC funding and travel support depend on state and federal funding, community collaboration, and organizational grants. There may be changes in the distribution and accessibility of funds regionally during the academic year according to these funding sources.

It is the responsibility of the student to fill out a Travel Support Request form promptly after concluding a rotation.
