Father Arrested After Viral Video Shows Six-Year-Old’s Dangerous Pickup Truck Adventure

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 19 — The operator of a pickup truck, who permitted his six-year-old child to cling to the exterior door of the vehicle while it was moving, has been recognized and arrested by Nilai District Police.

The occurrence, which was filmed and gained popularity on social media, allegedly took place at approximately 9:45pm last Thursday in the Bandar Baru Nilai region of Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.

Nilai District Police Chief, Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim, confirmed today that the 38-year-old operator of the Nissan Navara was taken into custody by the Nilai District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division and was questioned at the Nilai District Police Headquarters.

“At approximately 11:10am today, Nilai District Police Headquarters identified a 27-second viral video posted on a Twitter account,” he stated in an announcement.

“The clip shows a vehicle being operated with a child hanging off the side door of a grey pickup truck.”

The child, who clung to the driver’s side door, was the operator’s six-year-old son.

“The child’s behavior was merely for amusement, and it is his routine to request his father to allow him to stand outside the vehicle while his father drives,” Abdul Malik added.

The case has been categorized under Section 42(1) and Section 47(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
