NEWVILLE, Pa. – The IUP men’s and women’s swimming teams concluded the weekend with a duo of invitationals on Saturday at Big Spring HS Natatorium.

Serving as “hosts” to the Pidgeon Memorial Invitational and the PSAC Last Chance Invitational, Saturday offered a final opportunity for the swimming squads to refine their skills ahead of the league championships.

In both competitions today, the women’s squad finished third out of four teams, and the men’s squad placed first out of two teams. East Stroudsburg, Kutztown, and Lock Haven participated on the women’s side, while Kutztown joined the men’s competitors.

In total, IUP achieved 23 PSAC qualifying marks, 26 triumphs, and established four pool records across the two invitationals.

IUP added two more victories in the 200 butterfly event, with Gem Crittenden (2:07.09) and Luke Mikesell (1:55.19), both achieving PSAC qualifying marks. IUP concluded the first meet with wins in the 50 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay.

Notable inclusions in the pool records comprised Tyler Uhlig in the 100 back (51.04), the women’s 200 freestyle relay (1:39.48), and both the women’s (1:53.46) and men’s (1:40.16) 200 medley relays.

During the second competition of the day, IUP started with two wins in the 200 freestyle relay, which included a women’s pool record. IUP maintained momentum with 11 consecutive first-place finishes that featured eight PSAC standards. IUP closed out the day with two additional victories and pool records in the 200-medley relay.
