BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University swimming squad faced Queens in ASUN dual competition on Saturday morning at Bost Pool, with the GWU men succumbing 107-92 and the GWU women succumbing 122-77

Despite the overall loss, Gardner-Webb still achieved a range of remarkable individual performances, detailed below.

Senior Emma Maust initially spearheaded the Runnin’ Bulldogs in the women’s 100-yard freestyle, securing a second place finish with a time of 10:44.19 and a first leg split of 29.20 seconds.

The Gardner-Webb women’s team also garnered another significant result through sophomore Slawka Ndubuisi in the women’s 50-yard freestyle event. Ndubuisi hit the wall at 24.18 seconds, clinching first place by a mere 0.09 seconds. Graduate Paris Binard followed closely behind in third for GWU, clocking in at 25.79.

Binard, Maust, and Ndubuisi subsequently joined forces in the women’s 200-yard freestyle relay, where the ‘Dawgs claimed victory with a time of 1:40.05

Sophomore Alex Cook maintained a strong performance in the pool on Saturday as well. The Matthews, N.C. native finished in 1:53.18 to win the men’s 200-yard butterfly by over two seconds.

Freshman Dakota Townley, the reigning ASUN women’s swimmer of the week, again delivered a solid performance in the women’s 200-yard backstroke. The Concord Township, Ohio native secured the top spot among Gardner-Webb’s top three finishers, winning with a time of 2:28.42

Lastly for Gardner-Webb, Austin Wheeler earned GWU another first-place victory. The senior hailing from Flemming Island, Fla. clocked in at 2:07.76 to triumph in the men’s 200-yard breaststroke.

Additionally, Gardner-Webb secured a win in the men’s 200-yard freestyle relay, with sophomore Jacob Jensen, graduate Samuel Ospina, freshman Manuel Brander, and senior John David Cass racing to a time of 1:24.58 for first place

Gardner-Webb swimming will return to action on February 1st, hosting Davidson at Bost Pool at 11 a.m.
