The South West Coast Path Association (SWCPA) has opened submissions for its Photographer of the Year contest.

For a second consecutive year, the charity has partnered with Great Western Railway (GWR) for this competition.

An exhibit showcasing the entries is planned to take place at Paddington Station, London, in spring of 2025, featuring over 20 photographs of the coastal path that extends 630 miles (1,014 km) from Minehead in Somerset, meandering through Devon and Cornwall, to Poole Harbour in Dorset.

It expressed anticipation in continuing collaboration with GWR to advocate for eco-friendly transportation, linking the trail with train services, and aiding in enhancing access to the coastal path.

Aletha Mays, the communications head at the association, stated: “Collaborating with GWR to bring the exhibit to the capital offers an ideal platform for these images to motivate a seaside journey and assists in sharing the work that we undertake.”

The photography contest consists of five categories, including People and Path, Urban Lines, Nature, Climate Change, Sky Shot, and the Young Photographer of the Year Award for those under 18.

The deadline for entries is January 31, 2025.

The exhibition featuring the photographs is scheduled to coincide with the release of The Salt Path film.

The film, set to debut in April, is inspired by the memoir penned by Raynor Winn, narrating the adventures of her and her husband Moth along the South West Coast Path.

Various sites along the coastal path were used for filming, with Gillian Anderson portraying Raynor Winn and Jason Isaacs as Moth Winn.
