Tennis Takes to the Court in a Showdown Against Indiana

CINCINNATI – The women’s tennis squad from the University of Cincinnati is setting off for their first road trip of the season to compete against Indiana at the IU Tennis Center on Sunday at 10 a.m.

The Bearcats showcased their strength during their season debut on Friday, comprehensively defeating Eastern Kentucky 7-0 at the Western Athletic Club.

Sophomores Morgan Pyrz and Sakurako Watanabe commenced the match with a 6-3 victory in doubles on court two against Zhansaya Bakytzhan and Marilou Cote. The doubles point was confirmed on court three, where junior Callie Flanagan and sophomore Gabrielle Guenther achieved a convincing 6-1 win against Izem Elif Olcer and Sasha Parkhomenko.

Building on the momentum from doubles, Cincinnati claimed all six singles contests. Graduate student Zeynep Erman set the stage with an authoritative 6-2, 6-2 victory over Masha Fedenko. The match was decided on court three, where Guenther secured the win with a 7-6 (4), 6-2 victory against Marilou Cote.

// SCOUTING THE HOOSIERS

This contest serves as Indiana’s season opener. The previous season, the Hoosiers concluded with a 6-20 record and were winless at 0-11 in Big 10 competition.

 

Elisabeth Dunac excelled in singles, achieving a record of 10-10 during the spring of 2024.

 

In doubles, the duo of Lara Schneider and Nicole Teodosescu attained a team-best record of 6-1.
