“Capturing Norway’s Essence in Mijas: A Photographic Journey”

Currently on display at the Casa Museo de Mijas, a photography showcase by local artists Nina Reistad and Joanna Butler is available until February 10.

Reistad and Butler are well-known figures in the Mijas Pueblo community, but since the pandemic, they have both relocated to Son, Norway. The duo states, ‘Both locations are stunning; when winter and chill dominate in Son, we come back to the town to enjoy the mild climate and the sunshine.’

Their images capture details and places that juxtapose and compare, discovering similarities and contrasts between the two nations, capturing small and surprisingly lovely elements that portray the ordinary and everyday, while infusing our imaginations with stories behind the depicted scenes.

The enchanting shapes and natural shades present on the ice; the aged peeling paint that flakes from a worn wooden door; the shadows and reflections cast by the sun; a white sheet obscuring something and the intricately woven electric cords dangling from an outer wall; and how the streets appear so distinct in fog and rain – no aspect of our daily surroundings escapes this couple’s examination and contemplation – elements that are typically ignored in our day-to-day routines.

The display at the Casa Museo de Mijas will be available until Monday, February 10, operating from 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and from 10am to 2pm, then 3pm to 6pm during weekends. Admission is complimentary.
