Description text provided by the architects. The Cantonment region in Chattogram is recognized for its tranquil setting enveloped by greenery surrounding the institution’s grounds. Chattogram Cantonment Public College located in DOHS – was founded in 1978 and is overseen by the Bangladesh Army.
The main objective of this initiative was to design an engaging area for parents during their wait, turning this modest shelter into a cozy and inviting setting. Initially, the architects aimed to establish a distinctive design that would contribute a sense of uniqueness to a relatively small space. The pentagonal geometric form of the structure provides a conduit for creative interaction for the users.
A 2000 sq. ft. expanse with an 1100 sq. ft. constructed area boasts full-height slanted curtain walls and inclined ceilings, creating a spacious perception. The primary aim of this endeavor is to guarantee functionality and efficiency. The choice to implement full-height curtain glass walls was primarily to invite the encompassing green scenery into the indoor areas. The slanted curtain glasses also offer shield against direct sunlight and warmth.
The complete structure is underpinned by a framework system. No internal columns were utilized in this project. The use of ceramic roof tiles was an advantageous strategy for minimizing heat ingress into the building. The space was partitioned with sleek roof-high glass panels, which allowed natural sunlight to illuminate the area without hindrance. It offers an ideal solution for users to enjoy basking in the radianceof the sun while relishing the comforts of an indoor environment.
With the clarity of the area, the architects have effectively fostered connection and interaction between the indoors and outdoors, nature and artificial structures, illumination and shadow, and light and darkness, which contribute to a distinctive atmosphere in the construction. The foliage, resting spaces, and height changes of the terrain produce a variety of environments encouraging users to appreciate nature and engage in dialogue.
The layout has been carefully organized to foster a roomy and easy-to-navigate environment for the students and their guardians. Hence, everyone can move within the area effortlessly, without any barriers or hindrances in their path.
