A state of emergency was issued in New Jersey, a cold weather emergency was announced in Washington, D.C., and at least one individual suffered injuries in a collision in Pennsylvania as a winter storm on Sunday released snow and brought frigid temperatures throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
“The storm will persist in its movement up the East Coast into early Monday, with the majority of the snowfall expected to ease by mid-morning,” stated weather.com digital meteorologist Sara Tonks. “Northwesterly winds may lead to lake-effect snow bands affecting areas downwind of the Great Lakes, and strong winds could create delays for air travel in hubs such as New York and Boston.”
The system was labeled Winter Storm Demi by The Weather Channel.

Numerous Vehicles Involved In Interstate 80 Collision
A state trooper’s vehicle was damaged in the crash on Interstate 80 in Clearfield County, roughly 75 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. A post on social media from the Clearfield Fire Department cautioned drivers to anticipate an extended closure of the westbound lanes.
Local news sources indicated that at least one person sustained injuries.
Travel and speed limits were enforced on certain roadways in Pennsylvania.
There were several reports of additional accidents and vehicle mishaps around the area.

Extensive Travel Delays
Airport delays increased, with hundreds of flights canceled or delayed in Washington, Boston and New York by Sunday evening, according to the online tracker FlightAware.com. Amtrak also reported several alterations to their schedules.
The most significant number of flights affected included:
- At least 389 at Newark Liberty International.
- More than 380 at LaGuardia.
- More than 250 at Boston Logan.
- At least 335 at Reagan National.
