NSF Travel grant for US students (pending NSF approval)

The 23rd International Conference on Pervasive Computing and Communications (PerCom 2025) is set to take place in Washington DC, USA from March 17-21, 2025, and is excited to offer competitive travel grants for students to attend the IEEE PerCom 2025 Conference as well as related events (e.g., Workshops, Ph.D. Forum, WiP, Poster, and Demo sessions).

The financial support for the student travel grant is sponsored by the US National Science Foundation (NSF) – www.nsf.gov. This funding is exclusively available for full-time students enrolled in colleges and universities within the US. We particularly encourage applications from underrepresented minority and female students from diverse institutions across the US. While student authors may be prioritized for travel awards, outstanding undergraduate research students (e.g., NSF REU participants), MS research students, and PhD researchers may also be eligible. To qualify, students based in the US (referred to as “you”) must submit their applications via the Google Form link by January 28th, 2025.

To secure travel assistance, please follow these steps:

1. Obtain a letter from your advisor/professor verifying that:
   • You are currently a full-time research student in good standing and involved in fields related to pervasive computing
   • You will be attending the full IEEE PerCom conference and associated events.
   • The remaining portion of your travel expenses will be covered (please specify how).
2. Compose a personal statement outlining your research interests and achievements so far, and how you hope to benefit from attending PerCom 2025. Include your full-time student status (B.S., M.S., or Ph.D.) and your travel originating location.
3. Submit the documents mentioned above, alongside your two-page CV, as part of the “PerCom 2025 NSF supported travel grant for US students” via the Google Form link.
4. Provide the demographic information using the Google Form link.

Please keep in mind that the IEEE PerCom conference might not be able to reimburse all your travel costs due to budget limitations. Eligible expenses include advance student registration fees, hotel stays, and/or transportation (airfare, bus, or train). Ineligible expenses for reimbursement encompass regular or on-site registration, taxi rides, and meals. Student travel grants are allocated in the form of reimbursements, which will be processed only after the conference has concluded and all necessary documentation and receipts have been submitted. The amount reimbursed will depend on the total awards granted and the distance traveled.

Eligibility

The funding is aimed at covering the expenses associated with attending the conference. These expenses include conference registration, travel, and accommodation. The selection process for the student travel grants will follow these guidelines (please review them thoroughly, as the eligibility criteria and priorities have been updated from previous years in accordance with the latest NSF guidelines):

1. The applicant must be a current student at an accredited US higher education institution.
2. Student authors whose paper/poster/demo lack any grant acknowledgments.
3. Students may be pursuing either an undergraduate or graduate degree, and their area of study must be relevant to IEEE PerCom.
4. Preference will be given to US citizens or permanent residents, although others are welcome to apply and will be considered.
5. Students belonging to groups that are underrepresented in STEM and from minority-serving or underrepresented institutions and regions are especially encouraged to apply
6. Students and institutions that have not previously attended PerCom.
7. Student authors who are not presenting a paper/poster/demo at a PerCom event or whose submission was not chosen for publication at the conference and would gain from attending.
8. Consideration may be extended to other applicants outside the aforementioned categories, provided they can demonstrate a well-founded financial need.
