ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men’s swimming and diving squad succumbed to the Yale Bulldogs this past weekend during a two-day match at Teagle Pool.

“Our team fought hard today, but ultimately couldn’t keep pace with Yale. We recognized their skilled lineup, yet we were optimistic about hitting the wall first a few more times than we managed. Notable victories from Pietro Ubertalli, Joey Gurski, and Connor Brown kept us competitive during the initial half of the event; however, Yale surged ahead as the competition progressed. We’ll glean insights from minor errors and strive to improve as we move closer to the Ivies,” commented Wes Newman, the Philip H. Bartels ’71 Head Coach of Men’s Swimming.

Pietro Ubertalli (48.53 seconds) and Blake Conway (48.62 seconds) topped all competitors respectively in the 100 yard backstroke. Connor Brown emerged victorious in the 100 yard breaststroke (55.07 seconds). Joseph Gurski clinched first place in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:47.53.

Ubertalli, Sebastian Wolf, Gurski, and Josh Toothman secured second place in the 200 yard medley relay (1:29.17). Julian Correa finished as the runner-up in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 9:26.23. Dominic Edwards achieved a 200 yard freestyle time of 1:40.31 to take second place.

Toothman captured second place in the 50 yard freestyle (20.31 seconds). Ubertalli was the runner-up in the 200 yard backstroke (1:44.76). Gurski was the second to reach the wall in the 100 yard butterfly (48.72 seconds). Wolff clocked in with a second-place finish of 1:51.88 in the 200 yard IM. Ubertalli, Will Taner, Jacques Grove, and Edwards concluded the day for the Big Red with a second-place finish of 3:04.75 in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
