Alexandria’s Boys Swim and Dive: A Splashy 8th Place Finish at State True Team Championship!

The Alexandria boys swimming and diving squad exemplifies stability. The Cardinals have participated in 12 consecutive true team state meets, demonstrating their status as one of the most robust programs in the state.

During the 2025 MSHSCA Class A True Team State Meet, Alexandria improved from its 12th place result in 2024, achieving eighth place on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

“Every member of the team put in tremendous effort during their events,” Alexandria head coach Kathy Walker remarked.

Alexandria garnered seven top-10 finishes, highlighted by Kyler Kavanagh securing second place in diving (443.15). Krew Muscha followed closely behind Kavanagh, finishing third with a score of 387.10.

“It was a fantastic experience for the divers on the Gopher diving boards,” Walker commented.

Alexandria’s Eli Peterson narrowly missed the top 20, finishing 21st (95.55).

Cooper Running also delivered a noteworthy performance for Alexandria, placing third in both the 100 freestyle (48.77) and 200 freestyle (1:47.77) on Saturday.

Alongside Adison Newman, Zachary Iverson, and Andy Wacek, Running achieved fourth place in the 400 freestyle relay (1:32.70). Wacek additionally claimed a top-eight finish individually, taking sixth in the 200 IM (2:06.58).

Completing Alexandria’s top 10 achievements, Newman, Running, Iverson, and Micah Kietzmann secured ninth place in the 400 freestyle relay (3:28.51).

Alexandria accumulated 1,292.5 points during the meet, finishing slightly ahead of its Section 5A competitor, Melrose-Sauk Centre, which finished ninth with 1,288 points.

On Thursday, Alexandria will host Detroit Lakes and Morris Area at 6 p.m.
