Costume and Photography Artistry Featuring Princess Diana and Wicked at Arlington Museum of Art

In its latest two exhibitions, the Arlington Museum of Art (AMA) showcases a selection of costumes from Wicked (2024) and narrates the tale of Princess Diana through a personal, fresh perspective.

In light of the launch of the highly awaited film, the Wicked Threads: The Artistry of Costume in Oz exhibition honors two decades of the beloved Broadway hit Wicked and celebrates the craft of costume design.

“Costuming and filmmaking represent an exhilarating medium of visual art and narrative,” stated Kendall Quirk, AMA Director of Exhibitions. “The AMA is consistently eager to highlight the work of these creators, particularly in our complimentary community gallery areas. We hope to attract budding designers, filmmakers, and other visual artists to appreciate these costumes stemming from such a universal tale.”

Wicked Threads: The Artistry of Costume in Oz is set to commence at the Arlington Museum of Art community art space on Saturday, January 17, 2025, and will conclude on Sunday, April 27, 2025. This exhibition is free for the general public.

The Princess Diana: Accredited Access Exhibition will unfold to the public on January 17, 2025, presenting a collection of larger-than-life photographs captured by Diana’s close companion and Official Royal Photographer, the late Anwar Hussein, along with his sons Samir and Zak. Each photograph will be paired with personal narratives detailing the stories behind the renowned moments, conveyed through a comprehensive audio guide.

“Photography stands as one of the most compelling forms of narrative,” remarked AMA President & CEO Chris Hightower. “This exhibition provides a rare and personal insight into the life of one of the most iconic personas of the 20th century. Through the perspective of these photographers, we witness Princess Diana not merely as a global celebrity but as an individual grappling with the intricacies of fame, empathy, and her own sense of responsibility. It’s a chance to contemplate her legacy and the significant influence she had on the world.”

Princess Diana: Accredited Access Exhibition will conclude on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Entry to this exhibition requires a ticket. Click here for ticket details.
