Governor’s Nod: Michigan Gaming Control Board’s Executive Director Celebrates Deidre A. Lambert-Bounds’ Reappointment

DETROIT, Jan. 21, 2025 — The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) is pleased to declare the reappointment of Troy resident and Board member Deidre A. Lambert-Bounds by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. This reappointment underscores the governor’s trust in Lambert-Bounds’ commitment, integrity, and significant contributions to the agency’s aim of guaranteeing an equitable and transparent gaming landscape.

MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams conveyed his profound gratitude for the governor’s choice, emphasizing that Lambert-Bounds’ sustained leadership will substantially benefit the agency.

The reappointment marks Lambert-Bounds’ second consecutive four-year term on the MGCB, where she represents Independents, with her term running until Dec. 31, 2028. She earlier held her position from July 22, 2021, until Dec. 31, 2024, succeeding Barbara Smith, whose tenure ended on Dec. 31, 2020.

The MGCB is tasked with implementing, administering, and enforcing legal provisions concerning the licensing, oversight, and operations of the three sanctioned Detroit casinos — MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown. Furthermore, the agency licenses and regulates fantasy contests, oversees pari-mutuel horse racing and casino-style charitable gaming (millionaire parties), and conducts audits of tribal gaming compact agreements for the state’s 12 federally recognized tribes.

The Board is made up of five Michigan residents selected by the Governor, with one member appointed by the Governor to serve as the chairperson. According to the Michigan Gaming Control & Revenue Act, no more than three members may be affiliated with the same political party.

A minimum of three Board members must be present in meetings to establish a quorum for conducting standard business. The 2025 meeting timetable is available on the agency’s website at Michigan.gov/MGCB and the subsequent meeting is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at Cadillac Place in Detroit.

Lambert-Bounds recommenced her duties as an MGCB Board Member on Jan. 9, joining current Board members Joni M. Thrower Davis, Mark Evenson, Andrew T. Palms, and Board chair Linda Forte. Her reappointment requires the advice and consent of the Michigan Senate.
