Kamen Rangelov and Chris Baker Shine as This Week’s Top Male Athletes!

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Coe College student-athletes Kamen Rangelov and Chris Baker received accolades from the American Rivers Conference on Monday in the weekly awards announcement. Rangelov, a freshman hailing from Jacksonville, Florida, earned the title of Male Athlete of the Week, while Baker, a senior from Cedar Rapids, was acknowledged as the Male Field Athlete of the Week. Rangelov’s remarkable freshman season progressed over the weekend at the Grinnell College Invite, during which he recorded four record-breaking times throughout the event. The Bolles School alum kicked off his weekend on Friday with meet-record performances in the 200 breast and 100 IM, triumphing in both competitions. His time of 2:02.99 also set new school and conference records. On Saturday, Rangelov added another individual victory in the 100 Breast while securing fourth place in the 50 free. His times of 56.62 in the 100 breast and 21.32 set new school records. Baker joined Rangelov in the record-breaking circle by notching a second school-best mark to his tally. The Cedar Rapids native claimed second place in the weight throw at the Pat Heenan Invitational with a throw measuring 18.31m. This throw stands as the longest in school history and places Baker among 12 athletes in DIII with a throw exceeding 18m. Additionally, Baker captured third place in the shot put with an outstanding personal-best throw of 15.36m, which is third on Coe’s all-time leaderboard.
