Why The Hate?

The perspective of this article parallels another piece I authored; let’s put an end to the animosity towards composite photography.

Similar to those belittling that artistic method, I believe that individuals who have a distaste for photographers on YouTube are merely gatekeeping.

Not being able to adapt to the contemporary manner of disseminating photography-related content, they instead choose to undermine it hoping to maintain their traditional means of interacting with the world.

One of the primary objections photographers on YouTube encounter is the accusation of exaggerating the finest cameras, lenses, and other photography-related items. They’re charged with doing so solely to boost their channel’s income instead of providing genuine, real-world insight into the subjects they discuss.

There is some validity to this claim, but it extends beyond YouTube. Those earning money through photography blogs, photography newsletters, and social media behave similarly. Although many are sincere, there will always be opportunists who exaggerate to persuade you to buy something. That’s just how it goes.

Creators on YouTube also need to navigate the system to attract viewers. Those eye-catching headlines, attention-grabbing thumbnails, and overly dramatic opinions are intentional, because the truth is viewers won’t click on the video if creators adopt a more ordinary approach.
