Stramel Shines: A Stellar Performance Earns Second Star Recognition Post-Michigan Clash

East Lansing, Mich. — Junior Charlie Stramel has received Big Ten Second Star of the Week recognition following his standout performance in MSU’s split against No. 10 Michigan last weekend. 

Stramel contributed to three of MSU’s four goals in a 4-1 win against the Wolverines at Munn.  He netted a hard-earned goal right in front of the net late in the first period that became the game-winner, along with scoring a shorthanded goal – the first of his career – during the second period.  Additionally, he recorded an assist on Matt Basgall’s power play goal that initiated the scoring.    The centerman has achieved his second three-point game in the past two series, having set a career-high with three assists the previous weekend during a win at Penn State. 

Stramel’s  8-13-21 scoring record in 24 contests exceeds his previous 8-12-20 tally over his two seasons (67 games) at Wisconsin.      He has amassed 12 points in his last 11 matches, ranking second on the team for both points and assists, and holds a +13 rating. Stramel ranks third among Spartans in power play points (1-5-6), contributing to six of MSU’s 14 power play goals. 

Michigan State, currently positioned at No. 2 in this week’s national rankings, will host No. 4/3 Minnesota at Munn Ice Arena in a series that holds significant implications in the Big Ten standings – the Spartans are one point ahead of the Gophers with five series remaining.  Game times are set for 7 pm (Friday) and 6 pm (Saturday).
