Triumphant Titans: TCNJ’s Higgins and McChesney, Along with USMMA’s Cable, Shine in NJAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Spotlight

PITMAN — The New Jersey Athletic Conference revealed its men’s swimming and diving weekly accolades for the week concluding January 19.
 

SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
RYAN HIGGINS • The College of New Jersey

Higgins obtains his second and TCNJ’s third NJAC Swimmer of the Week recognition of the year. He showcased an exceptional performance during Senior Day, aiding TCNJ in achieving a two-day dual-meet triumph over Rowan. Higgins clinched victories in the 200 IM (1:52.16), 400 IM (3:59.74), and 200 back (1:47.48), outpacing his competitors in all three categories by a minimum of two and a half seconds. He also secured second place in the 100 back and played a key role in a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay, leading all individual scorers with 31 points for the competition. He currently holds the NJAC’s swiftest times of the season in both the 200 IM and 200 back, along with the second-best time in the 400 IM. Additionally, he ranks among the nation’s top 30 in both the 200 back and 400 IM.
 
 
DIVER OF THE WEEK
THOMAS CABLE • United States Merchant Marine Academy

Cable earns NJAC Diver of the Week honors for the second time this season after securing four NCAA qualifying scores over two competitions. He recorded scores of 253.05 and 260.25 in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives (6 dives), respectively, during a home tri-meet sweep. He later achieved even higher marks of 333.07 (1-meter, 6 dives) and 362.62 (3-meter, 6 dives) in an away meet against Coast Guard, breaking 25-year-old Coast Guard pool records in the process. His 3-meter score of 362.62 is ranked 12^th in NCAA Division III this year, and his 1-meter score of 333.07 stands at 26^th nationally.

JOE MCCHESNEY • The College of New Jersey

Freshman • Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough

 

McChesney receives his first NJAC Rookie of the Week award after playing a vital role in TCNJ’s victory over Rowan with an individual triumph and significant relay contributions. McChesney won the 100 fly, finishing in 50.17, just 0.04 seconds shy of his personal best. Moreover, he contributed to victories in the 200 free relay (1:24.72) and the 400 medley relay (3:21.95), achieving the fastest TCNJ 50 fly split (22.08) in the 200 medley relay that secured third place.
