The CENTER of Excellence (Centex) Manila, a public primary institution located in Tondo, is set to become a benchmark for educational technology not only for the Greater Manila Area but nationwide.

A foundational education institution founded in 1998 through a collaboration between Ayala Foundation Inc. and the Department of Education, Centex provides complimentary quality education to talented students from underprivileged communities.

On Monday, January 20, 2025, Globe, the telecommunications sector of the Ayala Group, gifted 20 tablets to the institution for the educational needs of its learners to enhance their understanding and competencies related to technology, including artificial intelligence.

Omnichannel Experience Integration Manager Jerome Patalud indicated that in December, Globe initiated a campaign known as G-Gantic Goals, which motivated subscribers to contribute one reward point each to achieve a total of 100,000 points to fulfill the mission of this initiative.

Once the target was met, Globe purchased 100 WiFi-enabled tablets to distribute 20 to each of the five recipient schools, with backing from Ayala Foundation and Khan Academy Philippines.

The additional schools to receive their allocation of the devices include Pasong Kawayan West 2 Elementary School in General Trias, Cavite (January 22); Lahug Elementary School in Cebu City, Cebu (January 23); Center of Excellence in Bauan, Batangas (January 24); and Pampanga High School in San Fernando, Pampanga (January 27).

Centex Manila Principal Heles Tiamzon conveyed her appreciation to Globe and Ayala Foundation for the technology.

She remarked that they had been prepared with an educational technology learning center even prior to the announcement of the contribution and are hopeful for more devices in the future to accommodate more of its nearly 600 students.

The institution also acquired a blue board.

Meanwhile, Globe Analytics and Stakeholder Engagement Senior Director Carlo Santos noted that connectivity had been established for Centex Manila as early as two years ago.

Globe Communication Manager lawyer Mike Pelayo engaged with the students during the event, where he discussed the benefits and dangers of technology, especially regarding online interaction on social media.
