The Chair of Redbridge Council has addressed this week’s declaration that the renovation of Whipps Cross Hospital will not commence until 2023 at the earliest.
The Chair of Redbridge Council, Cllr Kam Rai, remarked: “We are understandably disheartened and worried that Whipps Cross Hospital has not been part of the initial phase of the New Hospital Programme.
“Simultaneously, it is hard to overlook the financial difficulties facing the government and the well-documented shortages within the construction sector.
“The redesign of Whipps Cross offers substantial prospects. A new hospital in the central area of East London will draw some of the top clinicians globally while facilitating the development of essential housing for frontline workers. The new establishment will also update healthcare services for local residents, ensuring one of our primary local hospitals is better prepared to satisfy the continuously growing demands of the communities it supports.
“It is crucial that these proposals are not allowed to gather dust. We are determined to collaborate with Waltham Forest and other stakeholders to realize these projects as promptly as possible. I will also maintain discussions with the Health Secretary, Wes Streeting, to advocate our mutual goal of achieving the best health results for the people of Redbridge.”
