CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — After impressive showings at the Jack Jennett Open and the Hawkeye Invitational last weekend, the UNI track and field squad aims to maintain its early season momentum on Friday and Saturday as the Panthers head back to Iowa City for the Larry Wieczorek Invitational.

Field events will commence with the shot put and weight throw at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex starting at 11 a.m. on Friday, followed by further field competitions scheduled for 3 p.m. CT at the Iowa Indoor Track Building. Running events are set to start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and again at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday.

Expected competitors against Panther athletes include Iowa, Augustana, Bradley, Illinois State, Indian Hills, Iowa Central, Madonna, Minnesota State, and St. Ambrose.

As the Panthers gear up for their fourth matchup of the indoor season, they accumulated 14 titles inside the UNI-Dome last Friday during the Jack Jennett Open, which included sweeps of both the men’s and women’s 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles, long jump, shot put, and weight throw. At the Hawkeye Invitational, both Josie Moreland and Rylie Todd shared the women’s high jump title after clearing a height of 1.70 meters, while Emma Hoins recorded a new personal best in the women’s 3,000-meter run (4:49.50).

Northern Iowa secured two titles at last year’s Larry Wieczorek Invitational, with Kendra Nissen triumphing in the women’s 800 meters in a time of 2:17.02, and Tinashe Chigudu taking the title in the men’s 60-meter dash (6.77).
