Increasing evidence indicates that sea swimming can positively influence the mental wellness of adults. However, there is less awareness of how this approach affects young people’s mental wellness. This research aimed to investigate the perspectives of young service users and staff regarding sea swimming within child and adolescent mental health services. Fourteen individuals participated in interviews (eight young individuals and six staff members). Data were analyzed through reflexive thematic analysis, revealing five themes. Young individuals showed a preference for sea swimming over other treatments. They reported a greater (and lasting) sense of well-being following sea swimming. They connected the experience of entering cold water to their recovery process, recognizing the significance of stepping out of their comfort zone. A sense of community was also reported. Staff members acknowledged the dangers of swimming in open waters but emphasized the significance of positive risk-taking, given the advantages of this innovative intervention. Due to the beneficial effects that sea swimming can bring to the physical and mental health of young individuals, this innovative approach has the potential to be utilized.“`html
