Gophers United: The Thrilling World of University of Minnesota Athletics

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Minnesota forward Jimmy Snuggerud was recognized as the Big Ten Conference Men’s Hockey First Star of the Week by the league office on Tuesday. This marks his second instance receiving a weekly award from the conference this season and the sixth of his remarkable career, five of which have been as the primary star.



Snuggerud kept scoring for the Golden Gophers, netting three goals over the weekend against Notre Dame. The junior found the net twice in Friday’s 5-2 triumph, including an equalizer in the first period, before scoring his second later in the opening frame. It was the 13th occurrence of his career where he scored multiple goals in a single match. He followed that performance by equalizing again for Minnesota with another first-period goal on Saturday.



Hailing from Chaska, Minn., Snuggerud has found the back of the net in three consecutive matches and tallied eight goals in his last 10 games, placing him second in the NCAA scoring race. He concluded the season series against the Irish with five goals and three assists across four games, boasting 15 goals and 33 points to lead the Gophers’ offense.



Snuggerud is the second athlete representing the Maroon and Gold to receive multiple weekly awards this season, joining Brody Lamb, and the team has seen a star of the week nine times in the 2024-25 season. He achieved the accolade on Jan. 21 and Nov. 12, while Liam Souliere (Jan. 14), Nathan Airey (Dec. 10), Brody Lamb (Dec. 3 and Oct. 29), Sam Rinzel (Oct. 29), Jimmy Clark (Oct. 22) and Connor Kurth (Oct. 15) have all received B1G honors throughout the year.
