Hamblin and Guzman Splash to Victory: Weekly Swimming and Diving Accolades!

IRVING, Texas – East Carolina’s senior swimmer Kaylee Hamblin and redshirt junior diver Frida Zuniga Guzman have been distinguished as The American Athletic Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. This marks Hamblin’s second career weekly accolade, while Guzman has now received her fifth this season and seventh overall.


Hamblin achieved eight individual triumphs and contributed to four relay team victories for the Pirates in their previous two competitions. In the William & Mary Quad-Meet (Jan. 11), she secured first place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.24) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.77), while assisting the 200-yard medley relay team to victories against Old Dominion and Central Connecticut State with a time of 1:45.27, accumulating seven overall wins. Competing against Liberty (Jan. 17-18), she claimed two individual victories in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.81) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.17), additionally swimming on two relay teams that achieved first place in the 200-yard medley (1:44.40) and 400-yard medley (3:47.24).


Guzman continued her impressive run in diving, securing eight total wins in the 1 and 3-meter events during ECU’s latest two meets. In the Quad-Meet at William & Mary, she emerged victorious in both the 1-meter (302.78) and 3-meter dives (279.60), attaining two wins each over William & Mary, Old Dominion, and Central Connecticut State. Against Liberty (Jan. 17-18), Guzman notched two additional victories in the 1-meter dive (309.75) and established a new pool record in the 3-meter dive with a score of 359.25…

Since the commencement of the 2024-25 season, three Pirates have been honored weekly: Guzman (five times), Hamblin (once), and junior Sara Kalawska (one time).

ECU’s diving squad will reengage in competition on Saturday, Feb. 1, facing off against Davidson at 1 p.m. (ET). The swimming team will take part in the UNC Invite from February 6 through February 8, prior to the Pirates competing in the American Athletic Conference Championships from Feb. 19-22 in Dallas, Texas.
