ARLINGTON, Texas – California Baptist’s Mark Kovacsics and Gael Jimenez have been recognized as the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, for the competitive week concluding on Sunday, Jan. 19.
Kovacsics, a junior, triumphed in all three individual events he participated in during California Baptist’s men’s dual meet victory over Grand Canyon. His time of 9:16.67 in the 1,000 freestyle established a new GCU pool record by more than seven seconds. It also ranks as the second fastest 1,000 freestyle in the WAC, surpassed only by Kovacsics’ previous time this season. Additionally, Kovacsics claimed the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:29.46 and the 400 individual medley at 3:55.93.
Jimenez, a junior, earned his second WAC Diver of the Week accolade of the year by winning both diving competitions. Jimenez recorded a winning score of 364.80 in the 1-meter dive and 359.40 points in the 3-meter dive.
