HAMMOND – A family in Tangipahoa Parish enjoyed their snow day to the fullest, despite the power outage caused by the sub-zero temperatures on Tuesday.
Even in frigid conditions, enjoying several inches of snow isn’t challenging. Eric Jones remarked that, due to the infrequency of snowfall in the state, he gets excited whenever it does occur.
The Jones family resides in a rural area of Tangipahoa parish, and as the snow fell on Tuesday, the power went off along their street.
Eric’s 13-year-old son, Maliq, expressed his eagerness for the winter storm.
“I was thrilled. I couldn’t even fall asleep last night. I was too pumped for it,” he stated.
Although the lack of power made finding refuge from the cold difficult, Eric Jones lit the fireplace and kept an eye on the power grid.
For a brief moment, the lights returned, but within five minutes, they went off again.
“My electricity went out. Thankfully, I had my fireplace running. It’s warming my home. I have a 91-year-old and an 81-year-old. So you know their joints are fragile,” Eric Jones explained.
Nonetheless, the younger Jones was unfazed by the power situation. Maliq Jones mentioned that the moments spent with his family kept him entertained.
