More thrillingly, Dreame’s new collection included an enhanced version of its Airstyle multi-styler that aims to compete with the finest Dyson Airwrap imitations.

The appliance manufacturer’s announcement regarding the Airstyle Pro was somewhat eclipsed, however. After all, this hairstyling device lacks mechanical legs like Dreame’s latest robovac capable of ascending stairs (though, incorporating a mechanical arm into the Airstyle that could also braid your hair like those quirky styling tools from the 90s would be a fun nostalgic element).
That doesn’t imply it isn’t a progressive enhancement over the original Airstyler item, which debuted in several APAC territories last year but didn’t make its way to the US or UK. This will change with the Airstyle Pro series, as Dreame announces it will introduce its multi-styler in the US in a matter of months.
Unfamiliar with all-in-one hairstyling devices like the renowned Dyson Airwrap? The multi-styler and hair dryer multi-tool set a fresh benchmark for the appliance when it launched in 2018, paving the way for a plethora of imitators that provided welcome alternatives for consumers seeking a more economical option. After all, Dyson’s Airwrap is quite pricey, with a retail price of approximately $549.99 / £449.99 / AU$799.99 since its introduction, only experiencing discounts on rare occasions each year.
The new Dreame Airstyle Pro that I had the opportunity to see is comparatively more budget-friendly (though still expensive) at $399 / £320 / AU$630. However, when considering its advantages, such as being beneficial for less damaged hair due to utilizing air instead of heat for styling, it’s a modest price to pay.
What’s new with the Airstyle Pro?
Dreame appears to have made two significant enhancements to the Airstyle Pro compared to the initial model released last year, with the most noteworthy being the inclusion of two extra attachments, transforming it from a five-in-one hair drying and styling tool into a seven-in-one. In addition to the standard tools for various styling finishes, which include the auto wrap barrel for small curls, a round volumizing brush for larger curls and blowouts, a smoothing brush for reducing frizz, a fast dryer for drying hair and a flyaway attachment for evening your tresses, there are now two additional sized brushes for even more options.
I didn’t experiment with these two new styling instruments during my visit to Dreame’s exhibit at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Nevertheless, I managed to test the auto wrap barrel. For context, I’m not someone who styles my hair frequently, but I was pleasantly surprised by how user-friendly and straightforward this device was to operate. The Airstyle Pro employs the same technology as the Airwrap, utilizing the aerodynamic effect known as the Coanda effect to direct a strong jet of air along an adjacent surface when at the right speed and pressure.
This translated to me simply positioning the device to a section of my type 1 (i.e., straight) hair that I had partitioned and then instantly letting go of it as my hair curled around the Airstyle Pro’s auto wrap barrel. After merely holding it for roughly 10 seconds, I separated my hair to find a new curl in its place. The entire experience was nearly instantaneous and felt effortless; I didn’t have to reposition the hair section or attempt to hold the tool in a specific manner to achieve excellent results.
The final enhancement Dreame has implemented to the Airstyle Pro is one you cannot overlook – it’s what grants it that ‘Pro’ aesthetic and feel that somewhat justifies a higher price tag for those who appreciate premium-looking devices. The elegant new ‘leather-coated’ finish is profoundly striking and has been applied to the handle as well as the coordinating carry case.
I would even venture to say that I prefer the textured finish over the chrome handle of the Airwrap, as it appears to provide enhanced grip and comfort, which is vital when attempting to manage your hair or switch between attachments for varying finishes.
