ICE pictures competitors winner introduced

Cracks within the Flow, by Bengisu Ate, reveals the second a water pipe was by accident broken throughout excavation, instantly disrupting city life.

The picture was unveiled on the ICE Inspiring Engineering Excellence convention, at One Great George Street, ICE’s historic house, on 2 July on the Inspiring Engineering Excellence convention.

The ICE pictures competitors 2025 invited members to share images that represented ‘community and infrastructure’. More than 300 images, depicting the pivotal position infrastructure performs in shaping the world and communities, had been submitted.

The ICE judging panel shortlisted twelve pictures after which these had been open to a public vote. More than 4,400 individuals voted!

Photographer Bengisu Ate, an ICE member primarily based in Turkey, mentioned the win was very significant.

“Combining my passion for photography with the perspective I’ve gained as a civil engineering student gave this image deeper meaning.”

“Having ‘Cracks in the Flow’ exhibited on the ICE is a real honour. I’m grateful for the possibility to spotlight not solely the hyperlink between infrastructure and group, but additionally the duty we stock as engineers.

“I hope this image reminds us how essential it is to plan with care, foresight and social awareness.”

The picture now hangs outdoors Kendal’s Café Bar at One Great George Street.

Lead decide David Porter, senior ICE vice chairman, mentioned the judging panel had been massively impressed by the creativity proven by those that submitted entries, and the extent of engagement within the vote.

“The successful picture, taken by Bengisu in Turkey, actually captures the theme of the competitors – group and infrastructure. I believe the topic and composition of the shot of exercise on a reside building website is an illustration that everybody, engineers and the general public alike, can relate to.

“Well done to our winner, and thank you to all those who entered the competition.”

In their judging of the shortlist, the judges mentioned that the picture “dares to illustrate when things do not go quite right with infrastructure”.

The competitors’s runner-up picture was ‘Urban pulse: the fusion of light trails and skyscrapers’, taken by Kenny Huang.
