CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – They got here, they swam, they conquered… and doubtless took a nap proper after.

Swimmers from throughout central Virginia hit the pool this weekend for the Jefferson Swim League championships the place the races had been quick, the cheers had been loud, and the goggles had been tight.

Seventeen groups, lots of of swimmers, and two full days of cheering, racing, and enjoyable.

The Jefferson Swim League championships introduced the warmth and we’re not simply speaking in regards to the climate.

“Even with the heat it’s been awesome, so it’s split up, we started with our six-year-olds, and watching the six-year-olds swim, parents been awesome, families been awesome, it’s been hot,” mentioned Marty Fontenot who volunteers with the JSL.

From the tiniest swimmers simply studying their strokes to seasoned teenagers diving in a single final time, this meet had all of it.

“I think it creates a really healthy sense of community, bringing all the swimmers together, 17 teams show up here, I think the kids get to feel the energy, and really get to celebrate all the hard work that they put in throughout the season,” mentioned Erika Lehmer, who’s little one swims with the Crozet Gators.

Every race felt like a remaining. Crowds had been on their ft. Teammates lined the deck, shouting on the high of their lungs.

“So proud of all the kids, they have had an incredible season,” mentioned Sara Markham, who coaches with the Lake Monticello Swim Team. “They put so much work, effort and pride into this, and I hope they come back.”

It wasn’t nearly who gained, although there have been loads of quick instances. It was in regards to the high-fives, the crew chants, and the recollections made between heats.

Some swimmers dropped time. Others swam private bests. And some simply soaked within the second being a part of one thing large.

“Swimming is a little hard, but it’s really fun,“ say three little swimmers from the Glenmore Swim Team.

At the end of the day, it was more than a championship. It was a celebration of teamwork, effort, and the joy of summer swimming.

“Go tornadoes!!” they chanted.

This is what summers all about; cheering in your crew, making new mates and celebrating each splash.
