Sydney Metro West tunnelling machines energy into Parramatta

This marks a pivotal step ahead for the city-shaping mission and brings Sydney’s second CBD nearer than ever to quick, frequent and dependable turn-up-and-go metro providers, connecting Greater Parramatta to the Sydney CBD. 

TBM Dorothy is at Parramatta after breaking by means of a strong rock wall to succeed in the positioning final week, whereas TBM Betty is already 175 metres into its remaining stretch of tunnel to Westmead after departing Parramatta on 17 July. 

The TBMs labored across the clock, 5 days every week for 17 months to construct the seven-kilometre tunnels between Sydney Olympic Park and Parramatta.  

They have excavated roughly 1.25 million tonnes of earth – sufficient to fill 204 Olympic-swimming swimming pools – and put in greater than 48,000 precast concrete segments, every weighing as much as 4 tonnes, to line the tunnels. 

Both TBMs will full the principle line tunnels on the western finish of the road by the top of the 12 months.  

Six of the 9 station packing containers for the Sydney Metro West mission have been excavated and lined; together with at The Bays, Five Dock, Burwood North, North Strathfield Sydney Olympic Park and Westmead. Work continues at Parramatta, Pyrmont and the Hunter Street station within the Sydney CBD. 

Parramatta metro station will anchor a mixed-use improvement of 4 buildings spanning 24,150 sq. metres over the equal of two metropolis blocks, offering about 100 new properties, workplace and retail areas, eating and leisure.  

The new transit hub shall be a brief stroll to close by Eat Street, adjoining to Light Rail providers and hyperlink on to the brand new Civic Link, a 450-metre-long pedestrian backbone connecting the metro precinct to the longer term Powerhouse Parramatta.
