Rowers elevating £57m for MND analysis again on water after re-route

A staff of rowers aiming to boost £57m for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) analysis have restarted their epic journey after extreme climate pressured a change in fact.

The Row4MND crew, impressed by rugby legends Doddie Weir and Rob Burrow, initially set off from Land’s End en path to John O’Groats by way of the Irish Sea.

But sturdy tides and 20-knot headwinds forced them ashore at Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire.

Undeterred, the crew returned to Cornwall, restocked their vessel, which is called 57 in tribute to Weir and Burrow’s shirt numbers of 5 and seven, and set off once more on Tuesday night, now navigating by way of the English Channel and North Sea.

“This was a bold but necessary decision,” mentioned co-founder Matt Parker.

“We’re mirroring the resilience of the MND community and remain committed to completing this challenge.”

Fellow crew member Mike Bates, a former commando, added: “We’re one of the most experienced ocean crews ever assembled.
