Dana Mariko Chang ’15 (Photography BFA, Ecosystems, Sustainability and Justice minor) is an Oakland-based artist and photographer with a give attention to the intersection of meals and group. Growing up in Northern California, her household taught her the function of meals as a connector: meals ties collectively communities, relationships, cultures, and households. Whether it’s a tangerine grown in her grandmother’s yard or salmon caught by her mom within the San Francisco Bay, she realized that meals must be grown and ready with care; a meal grew to become an expression of affection between people.

Dana started exploring meals and images whereas incomes a BFA in Photography at MICA, the place she developed relationships with cooks and farmers with a dedication to sustainability in Baltimore. How to Eat Meat (2013) and Baltimore’s Bounty (2015) are the culminating photograph journalistic books she produced to have fun these cooks and farmers. A: Stay curious! Take courses that curiosity you no matter how “useful” you suppose they’ll be to your profession. I beloved Typography with Tony Rutka and Urban Theory with Kate Khatib and John Duda- and I discover myself nonetheless referring to the data from these courses to this present day.
