Maine Solar System Model provides dwarf planets Haumea and Makemake

For the primary time since 2008, two new planets are being added to one in all northern Maine’s most well-known — and scientifically correct — roadside sights.

Dwarf planets Haumea and Makemake are the newest additions to the Maine Solar System Model, billed as the biggest photo voltaic system mannequin within the western hemisphere.

In mid-August, a pea-sized mannequin of Haumea shall be put in within the Aroostook County city of Lille, and one in all Makemake in Madawaska.

UMaine Presque Isle Professor Emeritus Kevin McCartney, who developed and coordinates the 3-D, 1:93,000,000 scale mannequin, says the additions will lengthen it about 160 miles alongside Route 1, from Topsfield within the south, to the solar in Presque Isle, and now to the very high of the County.

“There are tons more objects out there, no doubt,” mentioned McCartney.
